All ideas are not created equal. Everyone has their own system and their own priorities. There's nothing wrong with any system.
I jot ideas down when they occur, if they seem like something I want to develop or might pursue later because then you have them when you need something and the well is temporarily dry.
For fiction, I keep notebooks of longer works I know I want to work on but can't at the moment. That way, if a bit of research or a detail or a plot point happens along, I have a place to capture it until I have time to work on it.
