For everyone who doesn't know what's going on, Tropical Storm Ernesto is about to make everyone on the East Coast south of DC have a VERY bad day. Being in Norfolk (and subsequently pretty much below sea level), my university isn't making us LEAVE, but they did send out this email earlier today: The Old Dominion University Office of Student Housing has issued a notice for all students regarding Tropical Storm Ernesto. At this time, the office does not foresee a need to evacuate the residence halls. However, students should be aware of the following recommendations: · It is possible that residence halls may lose power for a period of time. [Aint' that the truth, we lost power last night just from a little bitty storm!] In the event of a power loss, only battery operated flashlights and lanterns are acceptable lighting sources. · The parking areas in and around Rogers Main, Rogers East, Gresham Main, Gresham East and the Nusbaum apartments are prone to flooding. Residents who normally park in these areas should move vehicles to the parking decks on 43rd and 45th Street, (north and south of the Ted Constant Center) and use the Shuttle to return. The University is not responsible for storm-related damage to vehicles. · Should closing, delays or postponements of class become necessary, those announcements may be found on the University Web site, at 683-0000 after-hours recorded message, or on local television and radio stations, WTKR-TV 3, WAVY-TV 10, WVEC-TV 13, WVBT-TV 14, WHRO-FM 90.3, WHRV-FM 89.5 and WNIS-AM 790. For further questions in regards to housing call 757-683-4283 or email housing@odu.edu. They ought to just close down for tomorrow NOW and be done with it. Anywho, since this is going to apparently cause a bunch of problems, I didn't want you guys to worry if I wasn't around for a day or two or however long it may take to get the power back on. Just think of me when you see them reporting on this storm in the news tonight! Oh, and I'm SO making one of those "I survived ERNESTO!" shirts when it's all said and done. Stay safe everyone, and I'll try to stay dry and non-windy! -Ashie- A million stars look on in witness to our dreams -Thrice |
