Re: Re: names
My most common method of finding character names is baby name books (I have one of non-American names, too), baby name websites and my characters. They often will tell me their names. I also have the SSA website of popular names bookmarked. I know some people use the phone book as a naming reference tool. I've also discovered my characters' names in unrelated conversations with friends or through objects in my home.

As for using place markers, when it comes to my secondary and tertiary characters, I'm a great one for putting <insert name here> and keeping going during the first draft. It drives certain members of my writing group nuts. :)
