I can't edit as I write. I'll never get past the first paragraph if I'm looking for errors. I just go. I allow myself to just get the scenes out on paper, writing utter crap if need be and than go back and edit once the whole thing is finished.
Though if I'm writing a sentence and I realize I'd made a typo I will fix that but I don't go out of my way to fix anything until the whole thing is done.
I think editing as you go would be too discouraging. If you're worrying about getting everything right on the first go, that's too much pressure and you might think to yourself that if there's so much wrong with it then why bother?
I let myself have fun with it first. Then hack at it later.
