Well, I know horses really don't like walking on squishy stuff. Depending on how muddy the ground is, they travel pretty well, just slower. For rough terrain they can fall or misstep and hurt their leg. Often, leg injuries result in the animal being put out of its misery.

I'll ask my Mom more about them when she gets home. She used to ride horses all the time.
