I've done plenty of research trying to justify that it's OK for me to do it, mainly because I know I'll go insane without it.
Some sources label it as OCD, along with washing hands until their chapped and pealing. While some other sources have it in with kelptomania and pyromania, just those three in that category, forgot what it's referred to as, maybe that's the ICD. But when you look at some sources that are specifically for self-injury, a few of them mention it as being an act of self-injury too. It depends on where you look and who you ask.
It is one of those grey areas that isn't really being researched too much, just side notes here and there in various places.
Jokes that people make when they're frustrated or stressed out, like "Her attitude makes me want to rip my hair out", makes it sound insane and looked down on. Sometimes I wish I could say something to them, like "that's not funny", but then I'd have to explain myself.
