I'm fairly confident that it has been done before, but off the top of my head, I cannot think of an example. The important question is "Does it work for the story you are telling?" If the answer is yes, then you should feel comfortable moving forward.

Pulling it off smoothly is a matter of delivery. You'll want to make certain your scene breaks are clearly identified, that the reader knows when they are switching from one character to the next. It will help if each character has their own unique voice to help identify them.
