childbirth
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can transition from the "woman in labor" to "oh look, you have a boy and a girl!" Obviously, I know the facts of what happens, but I can't seem to figure out the best way to approach it in my novel. My main character is helping with a birthing and it's a needed scene. I have the beginning and the end of the scene written, but I'm missing that part in the middle. Any suggestions, or references to stories where the author has handled this well?

Edited to add slight clarification: I have seen and experienced childbirth for myself, so I'm aware of the process and terms. The dillemma is the storytelling part of it. My story is a fantasy, and the main character is the daughter of an herbalist/midwife.
