I owe everyone a public apology for jumping to the conclusion that there may have been a reaction against the gay element in my poem. It's a difficult world for many gay people, and I haven't had an easy time of it. I tend to over-react when my sixth sense, which was wrong in this case, smells fear.
I also tend to be undiplomatic and if I had waited another day to write my original comment here in the green room, it would have been phrased without any disappointment for not having been selected.
As a professional musician having entered tons of contests in my life, I know and understand why selection is a personal thing. All I need to know is why my efforts did not please, and I can go happily on my way trying to do better the next time.
I've taken the risk of disappointing many of you because the man behind the poet does not live a poetic life and has his troubles.
I am sorry.
