Disclaimer: I didn't study this in college. Just my observations after writing for a while.
But these would be my tips for writing free verse:
- Focus on imagery. I think a vivid focal point really makes a wonderful poem.
- Don't abandon rhythm and rhyme all together. In-rhymes and slant rhymes are fun to play with as well as alliteration.
- Don't write prose and then lineate it. Make your line breaks mean something.
I love writing free verse! I don't think you will find much else in my portfolio. Hehehe... I don't think I rhyme very well, that's why.
