Amaunet is an Egyptian mother goddess who is referred to as: ‘the mother who is father’. SOURCE: Encyclopedia Mythica – http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/amaunet.html "Waking Up Amaunet" Yesterday, when Reveille sounded, I was myself. A slower me – dragging reluctant feet into a familiar familial routine - rouse, dress, feed, reassure. Clouded looks float between us, words build up and become dams in our throats - wondering, hoping, dreading - if and when they will crumble, as Taps echoes in our ears. A man in uniform is sexy, but comes with strings. When the puppeteer twitches a dance of duty -the marionette must march away. Today I wake up, and I am Amaunet, carrying two rucksacks on a single set of shoulders. This Amaunet stands tall - after shoving stray tears under lonely pillows. Holly AKA Red Writing Hood |
