Spring 2006 SLAM! - Congrats to the winners - see you all next time! |
I sat one night out in the cold- I sat, hurt, alone with none, As I lifted up my head to you, I wondered if I might grow old Praying for your comfort, Holy One, So my strength just might shine through. Gazing up through thick trees’ cover I wondered how long I’d sit While awaiting rescue or death, And I turned to you as would a lover. For I knew the nights grew thick. And perhaps I would release my breath Never to return. Turning back into the night, The darkness swallowed me Along with any hope I had once carried strong, Of leaving this place without a fright, While sitting beneath that tree. It was then I realized- with you I must belong. But in the morning the sun did break, The first light of welcomed day. I looked out over the hills Hoping it wasn’t fake- ‘Had I died?’ I wondered, please Lord tell me ‘nay.’ Yet I walked away that day, with nothing more than chills. So I thank you Lord, for otherwise, I may have never learned.
