Nature's Guardian When I was a child so young and new, a toy I played with to pass the time. A red, shiny, apple with a secret inside, a worm green and wiggly that came out to say hi. I knew it was charming, I knew it was cute. My head realized there was more than was seen. A symbol of nature, this mechanical crew, so simple, yet speaking to me in my bed. It would be a long time before my senses were keen yet a voice spoke to me and did eagerly strew kind flowers and blessings that spread far into my future that said I'd be queen. A protector of nature and wildlife fair. Growing up, some difficult times I went through; 'kids can be cruel,' people laugh, but the dread loneliness was assuaged when I'd lean on books about animals loyal and true. Animals love you for who you are, they said; True of our pets cats at home who would preen. I wanted to run to the forests that grew. Escape from my family; pretend I was dead. Yet I had to stay with civilization mean. I am a warrior, an Amazon with a blue jewel in my spear. Fear me instead of the wolf, who I ride where have been vast buffalo herds, eagles, and bear.
