”The City of Lies” The tumultuous din of the crowd, Echoes above the proud. Of all that have come to see, But already the predator flees. Queens in drag all around, The hidden dare not make a sound. Of Stonewall and secrets of old, Of Macy’s and their twenty-four karat gold. Nobody can see the truth in the city, Of all those they should pity. It should be given to those in hiding. The ones the Christians have all been chiding. The scents of corn and “dogs” waft in the air, But at this moment is but despair. The only thing that has been found, An innocent has just been shot down. All but calm until one fine day, He told the world that he was gay. It stirred some up and they left their pedestal, They grab their guns and have left to meddle. The fast-paced city was no match, For the cruelty of the motley batch. As all who are themselves get hassled, By the Bible-thumpers from their holy castles. In the Bronx in the night, All lively in it’s glowing light, There comes a cry, a wail, From a lonely girl, faint and frail. For yet nobody saw, Another criminal hath broken the law. Stolen a purse from a woman’s hands, Left to sorrow and grief from a selfish man. |
