SLAM!

Rotterdam

Frustrated faces are visual as the traffic crawls forward
cars coughing out gasses that poison the body
there is nothing more to be done, than wait in frustration
and watch the cyclists pass by in the rain
that pours down of grey skies, on dusty streets.

The rhythmic cadence of the tram makes me shiver
a feeling of being so tiny creeps up when the tram makes a turn
to cross over the mighty Erasmus Bridge...breathe in and sense
the scent of sweat and salty air. Relax for a second,
but not too long; a hand reaches out for a purse and grabs it...
I am glad it is not mine he stole.

A healthy sense of arrogance fills the air
among the people, shopping in de Koopgoot
I smile as I hear some children, having fun as the fountain
suddenly splashes some water in their faces
above my head the cars are still crawling over the Coolsingel
a hand reaches out, I accept and thank the person
who gives me a new kind of snack to try
it tastes like nothing.
