SLAM!

We were in paradise
Vacationing in Hawaii,
On Maui beach,
Enjoying our last day,
Hues of lavender, rose, amber
Beginning to pulsate in the sky,
Shows glorious sunshine
Sitting in sand with coffee,
Don’t want to leave tomorrow
“No Elmo today, come on, look
The big fire, plane crashed
Hurry, tower is on fire!”
Little one called from inside.
“Oh! God!” Adult exclaimed,
Got us in to see the inferno,
On TV, WTC twin towers crumpled’
Tried to call friends, when we reached,
Listening to their sound was enough.
“I overslept and got delayed to be safe.”
The reassuring words, but unlucky others
What happened 5 hours ago, terrorist attack?
New York City in tremors with fear,
The scenes repeated over and over
Lost our appetite, lost our vigor to do
No plane to catch, we stranded at Maui
The vacation was memorable so far
But vicious destruction, dampened joy
Sadness all around, glory has faded
Anger, fear, about security erupted
Leaders started the unnecessary Iraq war
No end in sight now, wasted billions so far
The attack changed American life for ever,
No matter what politicians say or promise
For renewal, a need of God, even in disguise!
