Frazzled!
A mild expression of my morning –
A morning beseeched with wishes:
Wishes of sleep
         Little one, close your eyes
Wishes of quiet
         Little one, calm your cries
Wishes of answers
         Mommy, full of whys
Wishes of dreams
         Mommy, facing the skies

Formula, bottles, diapers, bibs –
Seventy-two days of a new life
On July 16, 1999
A life that brought with it my salvation
A life that galvanized my sanity
and tore it down, simultaneously
Just the two of us, alone, together

Flip on the tube
Escape for a moment
from the reality of
formula, bottles, diapers, bibs
Escape to…
         this can’t be right
The Prince of Camelot’s plane
         went down last night

The wish of quiet, now subdued
by my own sobs
Only one wish remains:
The wish of peace
         for a family
         for a nation
         for myself
