Delaying it forever would be too hard on yourself. I'm not saying you're weak, it's just I highly doubt anyone could go forever without a coping method. Alternatives are things to do instead of hurt yourself. There are many different things, you just have to find one that works for you. Some people on here have tried drawing, painting, or drawing on their arms. Making curtains, doing all sorts creative things. Do something that keeps your hands busy, if you want, try cutting into a piece of wood. Some people try beading - jewelry and other sorts of things. You could try writing your feelings down on a piece of paper, or pick up a book, or magazine. Go for a walk. At least try "The Fifteen Minute Rule" if you feel the urge, ask yourself - "Can I wait 15 minutes before I do it?" If you succeed, great! You are then allowed to do it. But before you do it, ask yourself - "Can I wait 15 more mintues?" This can make the feeling wear off, make it seem less appealing at the time after waiting. Also, try listening to upbeat music, not sure what music you listen to, but when in this state of mind, don't listen to angry, metal, or sad type music. |
