I'm looking to turn one of my Short Stories into a novella/novel, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what kind of voice to give the main character. The story is:
1) Plot focus ~ This voice would focus more on the events than on the characters. I think that this would be well paced, but also dry. 2) External character conflict focus ~ I think this is the voice I am currently using in the story, with a focus on the conflicts between, rather than within, the characters. 3) Internal conflict focus ~ This voice would focus on the internal conflicts of the characters, and less on conflicts between them. To do this I would probably have to shift perspectives from character to character. 4) "Experimental" voice ~ If anyone's ever read an experimental novel, the author tends to write as much about the act of writing as they do actually writing th story, which is another voice i could use. This would center on The main characters difficulty in telling this story. Realy what I'm looking for is what voice will accurately address the issues of each character without becoming bogged down, while still maintaining the reader's interest. Sorry this was kind of long, but any input would be helpful. To find North, one must first determine which way is which, which way is right, and be dissapointed that North is left. ~~Griffer - Raider of SFWG |
