Write poetry from prompts just for the fun of it; formal or free verse, you pick.

Prompt 14
14. Write a poem about what you view from a window or what looking out from a window means to you.

It’s raining.
It’s raining in Mississippi.
It’s been raining for three hours now.

My nose is pressed to the window,
And a bit of steam encircles that spot.
I’m looking out over my back yard
And beyond…beyond where remains
Some of the debris from Katrina.

They hauled away tons and tons of debris.
They made mountains of mulch,
Near the Y where I daily walk.

Spontaneous combustion…
Yep,
Those mulch piles are burning.

And the guy on the news implores,
“Please, please, no burning!
Don’t burn anything!
The whole county is a powder keg,
Without any rain for a month.”

How I love life.
How I love this backyard.
How I love this window.
How I love this rain.
