That IS the question, Puck... and LW is answering it round-aboutly...
Since interactive items are updated when others add to them as well (but no items are updated when reviewed), the date on the individual's port is changed when those are added to.

And, I guess thinking about it now, how can you say that this edit is not a "real" item edit (one "good enough" to make the date the author updated their port change) while others are... cuz wouldn't you want to see when an author updates an item? Or adds a new chapter to a book? So, that number can't just be for when a new item was added to their port.
