Sorry if it feels as if I am butting in, but let me tell you what happened with me recently. I had done this awesome research over two days to write a short story based on the Spanish Armada for a short story slam. I thought the story came out pretty well too. Over the next several days, the judges and the other readers praised my work and passed me into the final rounds based on this particular story.
I felt very nice about it for over the last six to eight months. Until recently, when a kind soul who has done pots of research on history, and he ripped my story apart, finding more errors than the spots on a leopard!
Think about that before NOT adequately researching any topic.
