I very seldom ever give anonymous reviews. When I do, I have a strong reason, and it is not because I'm trashing anyone's work.
I sometimes post an anonymous review because I know or feel the author will pressure me to change the rate or will argue forever. I have discovered that I don't like situations like that, and I will not give higher rates to anything than are deserved. I will explain what I mean with my suggestions, but I will not argue about them. I give my reviews based on my knowledge and experience as a former teacher and as a writer and a continuing student of writing.
We all hear about the writers that put pressure or who argue with reviewers. If I want to avoid that mess but still want to review, I'll do it anonymously. I still give a valid review, encouragement, and suggestions for improvement. Sometimes the rate is high, too. Sometimes the rate is a 3.0.
