For your own account, you can always try going to your "My Account" page and select the rating level you feel you would prefer

Edit to add-- Elisa is absolutely right that the listings are restricted to lower rated items.

For the purposes of work that is directly linked though, anyone can access work that does not have access restrictions to site members only and for those items, unfortunately, it is impossible for Writing.Com to have any sort of governance over the age of persons accessing Writing.Com-- That is why the site recommends parental guidance for young users.
It would be even harder to implement an age restriction over those who are not members; since registration at Writing.Com is the only verification we have of one's age, it would be impossible to determine the age-appropriateness for non-members. I do think it is very kind of you to think on behalf of other members of the site.
