My Mom is also diabetic, and steams it, adding a few herbs, salt and pepper. She also uses it in a mild curry sauce. It's a bitter vegetable, but can be disguised with the above, as long as you don't drain off any juices etc. which contain its healing properties. It can also be found in capsule form, which is easier on the tastebuds. This works wonders especially with Type 11, but also helps with Type 1 diabetes. If your sister in law is willing to try it, I promise she'll have wonderful results in her diabetes levels. Let me know how she gets on, if she tries it. Hope that helps.
