Welcome!
Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out you have found the right spot to start!
Goal
A peer-to-peer seed exchange forum.
Think of it as ordering seeds through a bigger named seed company but on a smaller scale. Or just slipping a seed packet as a goodie in an envelope with a letter or a card to a friend,
Our local library purchased multiple larger seed packets and separated them into smaller amounts in little coin envelopes (say a pack of 100 seeds into 20 packets with 5 seeds each). You could pick up several packets, but only one per specific plant variety/breed. All of this for free too! This opportunity allows families that may not have any money to buy the seeds to still have the capability to grow a garden even if it's only a few seeds. Most single plants will generally feed a family nicely. This also allowed others interested in growing a new to them plant they've never grown before without spending a small fortune just to find they can't get them to grow well, or the plant wasn't as tasty as they were expecting.
I'm hoping that same concept the library had of "sharing the wealth" would be helpful here for all gardeners alike here within the WDC Community.
Backstory on Forum Inspiration ▼ Backstory
Ever since I can remember my family has always had a garden of some size each year. If you haven't had home grown vegetables fresh from a garden you're missing out on how delicious they are vs the stuff you buy in the grocery store these days. A few years when I was younger I even entered some of our produce into our county fair competition.
Now that I'm older I'm still continuing the garden growing with my husband, who especially loves his sweet corn. We use seeds from previous years we saved, buy some new seeds, plants started from our local greenhouse, plants started and/or seeds passed along from neighbors or family.
Earlier this year we took advantage of our local library that took the time to separate larger seed packets into smaller 4-10 count packs and giving away
free of charge. Only one pack of seeds per plant type but it was definitely enough to give someone a start on their garden. Besides being free, a bigger plus is potentially getting to find plants we've never grown before but want to give it a shot.
This year our "never planted this before" plants to grow in our garden this year are a 4pk of pre started kale (bought at tractor supply) and Lima beans from seeds (family had saved seeds from last year they weren't going to use this year).
As I mentioned above one plant can generally serve a family nicely. No maybe not all year long, but most of the growing season in the least. That depending on family size as well as how much that veggie is loved too!

What if I
do want seeds in return for sending someone else some? Make it clear within your post that you want to trade (what you have to offer) only if the recipient has something you would like to receive back.
