A contest to show off your new skills. For Writing.Com's Birthday Week. |
Have you learned any new skills since you joined Writing.Com? I know that I have. When I look back at my old items, hidden deep in my portfolio, I blush a bit. There were some good ideas there, but I think that my newer works show an improvement. That is thanks to the inspiration provided by contests, and the feedback and support offered by other authors. In this contest, then, I would like you to dig up those hidden gems. Have a look at them. Rewrite them using all the skills you have acquired since. Or, if you have deleted your old items, or haven't been a member for long enough to have anything blush-worthy in your port, you can use one of the given prompts and write how you used to write before you joined, and how you write now. I will explain this further through the rules! Rules: If you have been a member of W.Com for a while, and you have old items in your portfolio, look up some of your oldest work and pick one item. This can be either a poem of up to 100 lines or a short story of up to 2000 words, with a content rating of up to 18+. This item does not have to follow the prompts listed below. Keep that item, but write a new version using all the skills and techniques you have acquired since. Post both versions in a single post, using a bitem link {bitem:plus number}, or a book entry link {entry:plus number}. If you are a newer W.Com member, or you have deleted older items from your portfolio, pick a prompt from the prompt list below. Write either a poem of up to 100 lines or a short story of up to 2000 words, with a content rating of up to 18+. Write the way you feel you used to write before you joined and acquired new skills. Be honest. Don't make this item intentionally worse than it would have been! I wouldn't know, of course, but I am counting on you playing fair. If you are using the prompt list, write another piece for the same prompt, using all the skills and techniques you have acquired since joining. Post both versions in a single post, using a bitem link {bitem:plus number}, or a book entry link {entry:plus number}. The deadline for entries is September 30th, at 11:59 PM Writing.Com time.
