There's a flash fiction, why not a flash poetry? Round Five is on hold some more. |
Flash Poetry: Five Lines! ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** First time entering costs 100 gps! Standards Ok- there are two ways I'll interpret the title for this contest and here they are: Flash fiction is a story shorter than a short story- commonly limited to 500 words. In it there are the classical standards of a story: a protagonist, the conflict, obstacles, and a resolution. But the size of a flash fiction sometimes forces the story to leave out some of these characteristics. It's a true talent at mind when someone can write a great story at 100 words or less. But is it the same when it comes to poetry? How well can you manage a poetic story, limited of five lines? The other suggestion is to give me all you've got- what makes your skill better than the rest? How fast can you swipe me off my feet? What message do you have to tell? What makes your poetic writing beautiful and intensifying? If you think you can master something like any of these, then this contest's for you! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rules This is a biweekly contest (runs every two weeks). There are a lot of rules, but they're easy to follow. 1. This is strictly for poetry! Any form of poetry that you can do in five lines (like a haiku), including free verse, is allowed! 2. The limit is five lines- can't exceed over them. You don't have to have exactly five lines, if you can do that... 3. Just like a flash fiction, you must tell a story within five lines of poetry (can have a left-off ending, usually a twisted message). Ok- here's the deal! I have decided that after this round (Round Three), I will omit this rule's strictness. I've discovered that this rule is very strict and holds back any poet's interest in fun and inspiration. I know many hate it when a contest changes a rule, but I believe this will make you all more happy. But if you'd still like a try at it, it's not denied. It is just not required anymore after Round Three. So you can either a. Do a flash poem as a story or b. Make your poem so mind-blowing with the prompt (if there's one) that I can't refuse to overlook it! Show me the pace and speed of your poem's excitement! 4. Bitem formatting please. If you don't know how to bitem, check this out:
5.Don't exceed over 13+ with poems. Entries must be rated E. 6. Must be new- and I'm sure they will be. You can't re-enter poems from the preceding rounds. 7. Free prompts all the time unless I decide to give some. It can be about anything- fiction or nonfiction- anything is accepted. 8. Only one poem every round from the same person. 9. An entry fee is required for the first time of participation. More detail is described way below^_^ 10. Anyone can enter! (If you have a free membership and don't have enough room to make another item in your portfolio, then tell me in the forum, for you can post directly.) If anyone breaks these rules, they will have their poem suspended until it's modified to fit the requirements. If it's you, you will be notified. If it takes 10 days (unless a specific reason is mentioned) prior to the start of the contest's round, it will be deleted. How creative can you write a poem and how interesting is your message? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is Round Four's list of prompts. You can either: *Title Prompts* Write your flash poem based on any of the titles below. 1. Cherry Blossom 2. The Beautful Lie 3. An Empty Door 4. Diamonds in the Sky 5. Dangerous Desire *Mention Prompts* ~Write based on the list of words of the choices below. *You must have one of the list of words mentioned in your flash poem. They must be used as written below: 6. When there is a PROMPT round, you must use a prompt listed- there's no exception, or you're disqualified for that round. Make sure if you choose a title, it must be what you name your poem. If you choose a rose prompt, mention your rose in the poem, or if a mention prompt, don't forget to mention the three words of your choice- you can devise your own title with this pick. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prizes I'm running low on gps.
