This branch -- which I left in the middle of posting -- was written for a commission. That, I'll admit, is why it uses a device, the anima band, that rarely gets played with. It's an interesting idea, but I've found in practice that it leads to gigantic messes. This branch doesn't progress far enough to start turning into a mess, though. It just sets up lots and lots of directions that things could go in.
