This is really interesting, for several reasons on its own, but to me, especially interesting, because I am studying all these very same thing. I’ve already started on hydroponics, and I am doing great and have decided to add the vertical garden in my kitchen. We must talk and discuss all this fantastic information. Love you girl. 5,000 GPs were sent to Carol Saint Ann with this post. Hydroponics...what are you growing? Alas, my small home doesn't have enough space for that, plus I'd have to amp up the light 9000% in the coming months. Queen NormaJean 2023 Quill Finalist. 2023 Quill Nominee. 1,000 GPs were sent to QueenNormaJean maybesnow?! with this post. I’ve been growing lettuce, parsley, basil, onions, carrots, and potatoes hydroponically for four years now. I started with just basil and got hooked. It’s a simple system. Basically a metal container that holds the water. I have not put any fish in there, but I will be doing that next year. What’s wonderful is I have a little water treatment which basically keeps the water moving and not filtering it in anyway. The key to the hydroponics is to keep the water sunlight free so that it does not develop algae. I’m telling you, that water is crystal clear. The roots are pure white and they smell beautiful. It’s a “set it and forget it” if you do it right and then just pick your plants when you need them. I’ll never do it any other way again. Oh, very important! Make sure to buy heirloom seeds from a grower or seller you trust. I get mine from a family in Canada and, of course, now I can propagate my own plants and develop my own seeds. You’ve got me chattering away on a topic I absolutely love. And thank you for the GPs. I’m saving up just now because my membership is due Dec.15, and I want to finance it with GPs. Thank you! for the information. I like the idea of fish - you get the benefit of instant fertilizer I should think. I can understand growing the greens, but potatoes? Hmm. I still have five mounds underground, waiting for the vines to die back and then I'll dig them up. Perhaps sometime in a few weeks from now. Interesting concept - I have heard of it, but never have seen it in operation or heard of anyone doing it. NJ Image #2291665 over display limit. -?- . Image #2291664 over display limit. -?- . Sorry, Carol Saint Ann , I'm so late in replying... but the last 3-4 days I just soldiered through Prep. Classic case of too much to do in too little time plus demanding offline life. I hope I'll first "theorize" what I researched here in the fictional way... and also next year when I'll finally REALLY do it. I even have a Calendar already titled "Make your own Magic". I mean what can be more magical than set up vessels, sow out seeds, cross your fingers, and then in the best case food grows out of your pots and beds. Your progress sounds intriguing, indeed. Hey, maybe I come visit you when I come to NYC the next time... BOO! Anyway, Happy Writing, Ms. Carol. |
78,000 GPs were sent to Carol Saint Ann with this post. That reads awesome... I've definitely still go a long way from where I am. BUT it sounds simple enough to set up. But when Basil is all it takes to get started. And here a little something for the "Burzeltag" as we say here for birthday. |
My birthday was lovely! Thank you for the good wishes and for the GPs! Wow! C. |
