A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
NEW AS OF 2017: (which means it still applies this year ) To enter a Contest Round, you must do two things: 1. Log the assignment via the Entry Form like you normally would for assignment credit. You do not have to link your work here, even if you want to compete in the Contest Round. 2. Submit your work via the survey form below to compete (also available in the "Important Links" section of the forum.) Your work cannot be passcoded, but you may protect it from public eyes by setting the access to "Group Only" (group 1474310).

Starling , has done Contest entry #1 for both of her Protagonist back stories. She was wondering if can post both or only one? I said I would ask Brandiwynš¶ especially since I have a similar problem. Co-Cheerleader Sig My Custom Sig by iKĆÆyĆ„Ā§ama

Only one entry per user per Contest Round. Pick your best shot! Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
I'm a little confused by your instruction to "log the assignment via the Entry Form like you normally would for assignment credit." There's no special number allocated to the assignments in the entry form, so the only way I can see to enter it would be to overwrite the assignment already submitted for day one. What would be the point of that? I must be missing something obvious here! CLICK ON MY SIGNATURE TO FOLLOW THE PINK FLUFFY UNICORN HOME!!! Unicorn Contest Signature |
This post was referring to the Contest Round assignments (days 7, 14, 21, and 28), not Day 1. So, if you want to enter the Contest Round on Day 7, you must do two things: 1. Log assignment #7 on the Entry Log for Prep credit (to get the October badge) 2. Submit your story via the Contest Rounds submission form to compete in the contest You are not required to compete in the Contest Round. If you choose not to compete, you only have to do step #1. Clear? Or still need more explanation? Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
I submitted my contest entry for the seventh, using item:######. What is the difference between that and entry:######. My entry submission is a separate item from my Daily assignments. Does it matter? Thank you! Torie |
On wdc, if you have a static item we link it with the item number but if it is in a book item we link the entry number. It does not matter which kind it is. Light Strikes |
OOOOohhhh I get it now! (Do you see a lightbulb over my head?) An entry is the chapter of a book item. I did it right then. Thanks so much for the reply. Torie |
You bet! Light Strikes |
The entry refers to a book entry or collection, the item indicates a separate thing (like Storm said, basically). ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
Thanks for this explanation. Turns out I submitted my entry more wrongly than I realized. DOH! ** Image ID #2100707 Unavailable ** 2016 Quill nominee |
When will the results for each contest be posted? ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
Soon! One of our judges had a work crisis, and the backup judge has a technical crisis. Hopefully in the next day or two. Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
Cool. Hope the judge and backup judge were got through the crises all right. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |

Think that I made another mistake in Posting. Ment to Post my Reply here instead of the last Post. I don't understand this Posting. this is for 2017. Is it supposed to be the same this year or should it be 2018 instead of 2017?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What you are about to read (see) is true. Nothing needed to be changed. After all, This has already been translated into a language that we all know and understand - English (German, French, Italian, Russian etc.). |
The post to which you're referring is pinned, meaning that it'll always be on top of the post list (well... unless another post is pinned, anyway. Maybe.) So while it was referring to last year's contests, unless something changes with the way we do things, it will also be valid for this year's contests. The link *in* the post will need to be changed to reflect 2018 dates and contest rounds, but those will not be needed for another few weeks. No contests begin until October. Does that help, or did you have other questions? |
I did the countdown timers, and I used "York" because I also used "New York." Bit of a joke there, but York is the same time as the rest of the UK (as far as I can tell). On the contest round page, I noticed the dates were still that of 2020. Are the assignments still the same, apart from the date? Is there a contest round for this Sunday, October 3? Live like a poet Be careful out there! |
Okay so I checked on this. As per the "2021 Prep Calendar" [E], the contest dates are all Saturdays: 9, 16, 23, 30. These are accurately reflected in "October Novel Prep Contest Rounds" [E]. The actual contest deadline is noon (WDC time) on the following Sunday: 10, 17, 24, 31. There is a place where it said 2020 when it should have said 2021, though, and I fixed that. So to answer your question, no, there's no contest this weekend. Round 1 is next weekend WALTZ 2021 October NaNoWriMo Prep Challenge Judging Coordinator Tech Support "Why annoy Brandiwynš¶ with technical issues when you can annoy Robert Waltz instead?" Whew glad I saw this! Quick question so the contest round is on the ninth but it doesn't end until freebie night, right? ** Image ID #2258136 Unavailable ** |
Close. Deadline for submitting a Contest Round entry via the form is 1200, noon, WDC time, on the Sunday following the Saturday contest round. Not the end of the day. Hi! In preparation, I created a folder in my Portfolio for the Prep that I thought I could put competition entries into, in due time. But am not certain I have the settings correct. I chose NPL, and then there was an option to choose "Group Only: October Novel Prep Challenge Group". Is that the same as Group number: 1474310 as specified for the competition rounds? My mind is numbing out on it sorry. Hope |
Yes, it should be. But if you'd like to test it, post a link to the folder (or something in it) here, and we can click the link and test the access. Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
Excellent idea, thank you - here is my link for testing! "Magnolia-Rose" Hope |
I am able to access it! Cheers, Michelle Battywyn |
Whoop! Hope |

5,000 GPs were sent to abbyer with this post. Ah, be sure those sins will be found out. Your character is in for some surprises, I think. You know. Perhaps a little fairy dust is in order.
