Kiya’s Lunch

Kiya is super hungry and doesn't have time to go out for lunch. I have promised that I will bring her something to the breakroom and I want to make it special for her. To ensure everything is just right, I get there two hours early to chop and prepare. I bring my own toaster oven and an open flame camping stove. The other nurses and doctors are appalled, but I don't care. Kiya needs lunch and I shall provide!

We start with an appetizer of Zucchini and Pepper Gratin with Herbs and Cheese. Zucchini slices that are topped with Swiss cheese and sprinkled with fresh herbs from the garden. Quickly heated in a toaster oven to make the zucchini tender and the cheese more flavorful and soft.

Our entree is tender pieces of chicken tenderloin, cooked in a pan and seasoned with Teriyaki sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. We eat the chicken with stir fried vegetables and all of it over steamed Basmati rice.

For dessert, Kiya enjoys a hot apple tart topped with a ball of vanilla ice cream.

To help her get over the resulting food coma, I serve her a strong Espresso with a couple of butter biscuits on the side.

The Nurse

The Nurse is an uncommon human.
Resilient in the face of adversity.
Helps everyone, even Truman.
Learned a lot at university.

Teaches young beginners to heal.
That is the job’s appeal.

The nurse is a regular human.
Sleep and breaks are a need.

Polite and thankful patients heed
the advice
to be nice.
