In forum posts, do not check the box under the post body text box to be notified. That one goes to email. Replies when the box is unchecked go to notifications. Blog and photo comments notifications only go to email. The Account Settings option, Blog/Photo Comment Notifications:, should be set to ON. In other people's blogs/photos, you must have the checkbox checked. No option to have them go to notifications. You can filter them directly to an email folder if you want to, though. There's an intermittent bug with this one which sometimes means you won't get an email notification anyway. Birthday notifications are sent ONLY for people who have filled out that information in their Biography tab edit form. While the site has everyone's birthday information in Account Settings, that is private, and not used. Generally there is no notification for your own activity, so no, it won't notify you about your own birthday. I generally see the birthday notifications late in the evening, though, rather than at the start of the day. So that particular birthday may come through later on.
