I really let this piece spill out of me...that title was great!
When It Falls
Did you weep for me,
the sinner pondering her fate in the dark? “Light my path with gentle sounds of mourning.”
Cry to me with passionate longing,
the moon circling your orbed face—
do you see my hysterics crawling along my skin,
radiant and defying as I scream out your name? “Are you listening when I clutch at your skirts?”
Upend me over the gliding hill,
say to me “Are you worth it?”
Can I speak to you like a mother,
caress you like a lover,
see you as a sister— “But where am I when the blackness strips me bare?”
You are a witch doctor,
a priestess who lights the barns with glowing dark—
Will you come to me like the birds of evening,
cawing and choking at my breast? “Light the path or get the Hell out.”
Silence the maidens who shriek in the closet,
nail the door shut that you opened long ago.
I am waiting like a patient tiger,
and when you come in I’ll scram.
