** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Welcome to Poison Apple Theater, where we prefer our fantasy with a more macabre twist. Instead of reading Disney's version of Snow White full of singing birds and wishing wells, we prefer the darker version of events where after defeating her evil stepmother Snow White makes the woman dance to her death in red hot iron slippers. Instead of sunlit meadows we lead our characters into dark and sinister forests, keep our magic malicious, our apples poisoned, and our heroes just shy of evil themselves. If you think you're up to the twisted task of writing Dark Fantasy, submit your entry down below...   Dark fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy which can refer to literary, artistic and filmic works that combine fantasy with elements of horror. The term can be used broadly to refer to fantastical works that have a dark, gloomy atmosphere or a sense of horror and dread. For Non-Dark Fantasy, try this: "Invalid Item"  Rules:  5,000 words or less. Short stories only. Anything up to GC rating is fine but no erotica please. Post all entries in Bitem format. {bitem:#####} Pictures are meant to be used as inspiration only. You can use them in your story if you'd like, but you don't have to. Only one entry per person. Please post word count with entry. New or old is fine, as long as the story fits the prompt. Nothing that has already won in this contest or any other will be a valid entry. There must be at least three entries to award first place. There must be at least five entries for all three awards to be given out. All entries will receive a private six-point review. Honorable mentions may be awarded at the judges' discretion. Entries will not be read until after the contest closes. There are no penalties for editing after the contest ends, but there are no guarantees that the judge will see the edits either. Contest will begin at the first of the month and will end at 11:59 pm WDC time on the last day of the month. New Prompt will go up the next day. Winners will be announced by the 15th.
