The Boston Group wanted to know American’s thoughts regarding Self-driving cars. |
[Introduction]
The Boston Group wanted to know American’s thoughts regarding Self-driving cars. Thanks to many recent advances in automotive technology, fully autonomous vehicles are no longer considered science fiction—in fact, they could be right around the corner. The results of the study were interesting for two reasons. Americans want self-driving cars Americans love their vehicles. More importantly, they love driving them. With so many car enthusiasts in the country, the Boston Group was surprised at just how many Americans reported being interested in a car that drove itself. Of the 1,500 drivers surveyed, 55% reported that they would “likely” or “very likely” purchase a semi-autonomous car (a vehicle that could handle some, but not all, of the driving). 44% said they would, in ten years, purchase a fully autonomous vehicle. The survey seems to indicate that there will be quite a market for self-driving cars even here in America. The reason why Even more interesting to the Boston Group was the primary reason Americans were interested in autonomous vehicles. The advantages of a car that drives itself is pretty obvious. It frees up drivers to do other tasks while their car takes them where they need to go. It’s more convenient, more efficient, and less stressful. But the leading reason that Americans are interested in autonomous vehicles is greater safety and, as a result, lower insurance costs. As autonomous vehicle technology is perfected, it’s assumed that vehicles will become perfectly safe (because human error is taken out of the picture). Car insurance will be a lot cheaper in a future where cars drive themselves and are many times safer. Opponents to autonomous vehicles Of course, not everyone surveyed is thrilled about the idea of a self-driving car. Those who reported that they wouldn’t buy a semi-autonomous or fully autonomous vehicle cited a number of predictable reasons. First and foremost was the love of sitting behind the wheel. Other reasons included distrust of technology and fear of theirs cars being hacked and taken over by a third party. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. Some predict that car insurance won’t be needed at all. Until that time, however, call (855) 683-7757 for an affordable car insurance quote.
