An Essay I wrote in my English class
[Introduction]
Success

I have had many failures in my lifetime. I have learned that anything I have ever wanted

I had to work hard for. In my life experiences I’ve learned persevering and a never give

up approach is what has helped me achieve my goals and dreams.

My Father taught me a couple of lessons from my failures. I can remember at age 8

coming home from my first day of pee wee football and I had told him I quit after having

the wind knocked out of me. He said “No Son of Mine is going quit go back and try

again” So I went back to practice and continued to play until I finally overcame my fears

of getting hit. Another time I can remember He took me to the backroom of the store

where he worked and showed me the boxes he had to sort and pack for shipping. He then

gave me a chance to learn and try his job. I tried hard for about 10 minutes. I realized I

was in over my head and couldn’t keep up with the conveyor belt. I failed and was ready

to quit but my dad stood by my side and helped me until I got it right.

The one common interest I’ve had since I was young was in Computers and Games.

when I was 9 years old when I remember going over to a friend’s house and learned how

to write a program on Commodore 64 that took 3 days to type in order to play a game

called “Pitfall”. Once again I was learning something new and it took time to get it right.

I played everything from Pong to Atari and later on Nintendo to Sega. Computers were

brought in my 8th grade year and became a requirement my 9th grade year. I enjoyed

learning how to use a computer and mostly enjoyed them for being able to play games

like the Oregon Trail. I would later find my passion and career goals. But before then I

had to start somewhere.

At age 16 and got my first paying job as dishwasher. I was very good at it but

wasn’t making enough to be on my own. I found some Hard Labor work and other

Industrial type work that paid much better but it took a toll on me physically. I finally

found a job I was good at and enjoyed working as Event Security Staff for the

Washington Huskies, Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. As a big sports fan I

enjoyed interacting with fans and occasionally the athletes and sports personalities.

unfortunately the company folded so that job came to an end.

It was 1999 that I found my most challenging and rewarding job working as a Loss

Prevention Agent for various Retail Stores. It was challenging having to enter a store

and pretend to be shopping while keeping an eye on potential shoplifters. My first couple

days of training I failed in trying to catch anyone. I would eventually learn how they

would enter and how they tried to avoid being seen or would look for quick access to exit

without been caught. I learned to work with employees and being in right spot to catch

shoplifters.

I have had few other Jobs working Security, Loss Prevention and Retail but after being

laid off last year and having a health scare I started looking to get back into working with

Computers and trying to create a website to help me on setting goals to a healthier

lifestyle with eating right and exercise. I have enrolled in DCCC to get my Web

Development Certificate by the summer of 2015. I hope that can help me in achieving my

career goals and dreams.
