Even though you think no one is listening, the walls know everything.
[Introduction]
She couldn't talk. All she could do was scream. Scream at the world, scream at her life, scream at herself. Her world was destroyed. Her life was over. All it took was one time. And it was that one time that made her a target for the teasing and rumors; the torture and pain. She sat on her bed with her back to the wall, hugging herself as she rocked back and forth, crying. In her blurred vision was a kitchen knife she grabbed while she ran upstairs to her room. The door was locked. Her parents were on the other side of the door, asking her to let them in. Her mother was crying. Her little brother, on the other side of her wall, was sitting on his bed, teddy bear clutched in his hands.
"Melissa!" her father cried. "Let us in!" Her mom was on the floor, crying for her.
"MELISSA!" her mother screamed. "FOR GOD'S SAKE!" Melissa couldn't scream anymore. She couldn't even talk or cry. She just sat there. Her father was beating on the door and Melissa waited for her father to become a superhero and save her from her crushed world. All of a sudden, she could hear a loud buzzing. It buzzed loudly over her father's beating and her mother's crying. Melisa pugged her ears, closing her eyes tightly and grabbing her hair.
"SHUT UP!" she yelled at the buzzing. No luck. It grew louder. Melissa grabbed the knife and stood up, holding it to her stomach. "DON'T MAKE ME!" Through her blurred vision, the walls seemed to move, like they were closing in on her. Panting and gasping for air, Melissa hit the floor, knife still clutched in her sweaty palm. Through the buzzing she could hear people talking.
"She was a bright girl. What happened?" Or "Is she really pregnant? What a slut." Tears sprang from her eyes and the buzzing faded only slightly. Her father's banging was louder than ever. His palms were red and stinging from pain. Melissa laid there on the floor, and sniffling she whispered "It's over."
Silence entered through the house. Her father stopped banging on the door, the mother stopped crying, her brother's teddy bear dropped to the floor with a soft thud. Melissa's body grew cold and motionless while the walls held her story and kept it there forever.
