1. No killing of any character without the authors permission

2. Don't try and be racist when writing. We don't really need to read that.

3. Spell correct plz. I hate it when you try and read something like, "I ish thr was smething col and awsme." No one likes to read that, and it'll ruin the story in your head.

Rain is something as both the giver of life and the taker of life Kira thought as he was lying down on some garbage bags in an alley. The rain gives water to anyone who opens their mouth, instantly giving the drinker life. And yet, due to all the pollution in the air, can also take away your life due to the many toxins that is contained in those so-called harmless drops. Kira felt the rain splashed his face, healing the rough skin that was continuing to form as he lived on the streets.

"One year," Kira thought to himself as he adjusted himself on the garbage bags. One year went past since the day that he had decided to make a run for his life. One year went past since the day that his parents died in some bizzare fire at his house. One year since the day his life changed forever.

Even after being in the streets for one year barely being able to survive the cold, the hunger, and the people that moved around claiming territory after territory, Kira couldn't believe this was still happening to him. That this was his future. His destiny. He always kept thinking that once he wakes up from sleeping, he'll be back in his house with the sunlight hitting his face. The birds chirping on the tree next to his window. And most of all, his parents greeting him as he made his way downstairs, knowing that everything was normal to him.

"Normal," Kira thought bitterly as he got up and examined the garbage bags that he was on. No teenager should ever be in this position. No teenager should ever have to live their days in which their life can actually be compared to that garbage bag that he was sleeping on 4 months. No teenager should have their life taken away like this!

Kira closed his eyes as he felt the raindrops continue to hit his face and eyes. Kira then realized that his eyes weren't wet from the raindrops, but from his own eyes crying. Kira wiped his face and looked at the dark clouds in the sky, reflecting what his view on life was now. Thinking of those people that walked down the street, doing what they liked.

"They are the ones that are normal," Kira thought. "Not me."

After waiting for the rain to stop, Kira walked out of the alley and looked around. Noticing he was hungry, he took off his shoe, and took off his sock. Pennies, dimes and quarters came out and rained down on his hand. Looking at the change, Kira can make out what appeared to be 9 pennies, 2 dimes, and a quarter. "Fifty-four cents," Kira said to himself.

Feeling his stomach rumble again, Kira decided that now was the time to get some food.
Character Name: Alaina Marez

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Appearance: She's shorter than most people. She's about five feet tall. Alaina's a skinny kid from a life of poverty and scarred from her life in a gang. She has a tattoo on her ankle of a pirate flag and has the name Manny on the back of her neck. She has black hair and brown eyes. Her face has soft features making her somewhat attractive if she wasn't so pissed off all the time.

Race: Hispanic

Personality: Alaina is a spunky girl who's alway been out for authority figures. First it was teachers, then her parents, and now its her gang leaders. She has a tendency to stir up trouble wherever she goes so its hard for her to have permanant friends. She's defensive, but has a soft side somewhere deep, deeep within her.

Why she's on the streets: Alaina got kicked out of her house when she was fifteen for joining a gang. Now she wants to get out of the gang. The life is just too hectic and the death of her older brother in a shoot out was too much to take. Now she has nowhere to go and is always looking over her shoulder to make sure no members of her old gang aren't there to punish her for leaving the gang. She's also paranoid about rival gangs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alaina woke up abruptly as she heard a noise. Her hand instictively grabbed for a switch blade that popped out of its sheath ready to strike. She looked around and saw that it was just a bus going by. She cursed to herself and rubbed her eye with the heel of her hand. It had been a long two weeks since she'd been on the run. Alaina put her backpack on her shoulder deciding it was time to move on.
Kira began walking towards the local Tim Hortons that he has always been eating at. "The food is cheap, the taste is good, and the food is cheap," Kira kept thinking to himself as he was walking down the street. That's all that mattered anyway. He didn't care what type of food he was eating as long as it continued to make him live. That's what mattered. He had to survive this first before trying to move on. As Kira continued walking down the streets, he glanced at the people that were walking on his left and right. Some wore expensive clothing and were looking very important as they were going by him. Some even glanced at him, noticing his black clothing and ripped up jeans. Some didn't even notice him at all. Like he was some useless vermin on the streets that didn't require attention.
Kira didn't mind this at first. It has been happening for over a year now. The same looks over and over and over. And yet, in the back of his mind, or in his heart, he did care. He wanted to be normal again. He wanted his family to come back. He still kept thinking that his life was taken away from him.
As Kira made it to the local Tim Hortons, he glanced at the change that he was holding very tightly in his hands. The fifty-four cents that he took out of his sock.
"Drats," he muttered to himself. He didn't have enough to keep him not hungry for a bit. I guess I have to do my job Kira thought as he pulled out a cup from his jean pocket, straightened it a bit, and then sat down on the front of Tim Hortons.
Sitting there, Kira then began opening the door for people as they were walking inside, always trying to keep a polite expression on his face. That way, there was always hope that some of those people might drop a couple of cents into his cup, so that way he can buy some food so he wouldn't starve on that day. It was tough though. People kept giving him the dirtiest of looks. The looks that no human being should have to endure, like your not even human.
However Kira thought as someone dropped a few cents into his cup, this was his job. A job that he had to do in order to survive.
Name: Kina O'Connor
Age: 16
Sex: female
Apperence: Kina has long fire red hair that is natural. Her skin is naturally pale with freckles covering her face. Her eyes are a light green that seem to stand out despite there color.
Personality: Kina is very outspoken and likes to have things her way even if she is aware that it is the wrong way.
Why is she on the street: She ran away from her drunk father and cocaine addict mother. It's not like they paid any attention to her any ways.
Alaina sighed and collapsed on another bus's bench. If it weren't for the rare occasion her mother pitied her and gave her a free meal, she would be out of this town. She felt eyes from all direction. She didn't like the feeling of being stalked like a prey. She didn't like being on that end of the chase. Her hand reached into the pocket of her cargo pants and clenched her hand around the knife. It was her only remaining weapon. It was her lifeline when push came to shove.
She looked across the street and saw something intriguing. An old looking volkeswagon van. Alaina cocked an eyebrow and smiled smugly. She looked from left to right seeing that no one really important was on the street. At least no one that would stop her from breaking into a car. She waited for the cars to leave when the light turned green and ran across the street to the van.
It was an ugly old thing. It was white and puke green with a twenty year old sticker of a happy face on the backwindow. There were curtains in the glass that kept her from seeing inside. Maybe this was someone else's home.
Alaina shrugged.
"Well, its not anymore," she said to herself. She armed the knife in her hand and stuck the blade into the lock.
Couple of hours later, Kira left Tim Hortons feeling a lot better after eating some tasty timbits. Inside his sock, two dollars in change were being crunched by his foot as he continued walking down a somewhat deserted street. "Hm, today was a good day," he thought to himself. He didn't expect he'd eat something and still have two dollars.
"Must've been a giving bunch that came by Tim's today," he said out loud to himself. Suddenly he stopped on the curve of the road. A dark thought suddenly crept into his head like a snake moving through the grass. He remembered when he use to be nice. Good little boy he was. Happy. Laughing. Kira began walking again and turned left. He could still be like that he said to his mind in a fair tone. Yet the snake came back and with that another dark question. "Why do you have to be?"
As he continued pondering that question he noticed something that caught his eye. A short girl with black hair was trying to open a door of a somewhat old looking volkeswagon. Finding an idea that would amuse him, Kira moved stealthy to the otherside of the door. Hiding behind the other door outside, he counted to 3 and then stood up and banging on the door said, "Boo!"
"Where the hell do you think that you are going?" Her father screamed as he watched Kina run from the house.
Kina didn't stop to talk to him, she was just worried about him coming after her. Behind her, she could hear a bottle against the sidewalk.
Kepp running, she repeated to herself over and over.
"Shit!" Alaina cried in alarm. She turned around and immediately threw her fist at the one who had scared the crap out of her. A dark haired boy staggered completely backwards, more out of shock than the actual blow, holding both hands over his nose. His hat had fallen off his head to the street. Alaina cursed again.
"Dios mio!" she hissed as she bent down to pick up his hat.
"Oh! My nose!" he said. He pulled it away to see that it wasn't broken, but a small string of blood was flowing freely. Alaina continued with a long string of spanish curses as he smacked the hat against her palm, getting off all the dust. After a while of listening to the words that were drawn incoherently close together he stared at her. "Huh?"
"Aye! Do you just go around sneaking up on random people of is this your car?" Alaina cried. The boy stared at her obviously still in shock at the momentum things were happening in.
"Huh?" he asked as he gained his bearings. Alaina leaned forward getting up in his face.
"Is. This. Your. Car?" she said rudely. The boy scrunched up his face obviously not liking the way he was being talked to.
"No," he said.
"Then don't frickin' scare the shit out of me when I'm BREAKING INTO IT!" she said. The kid glared at her as if holding everything in his power to bite back a response. Alaina relaxed slightly. He wasn't a gang kid. She had little to worry about. She turned the blade that was still in the van's door locked and heard a soft click. Alaina stopped and looked at him raising her eyebrows to wordlessly tell him he had no right to be here. The boy stood there, much taller than her looking down with his dark brown eyes. Suddenly Alaina felt a tug of guilt. Like his eyes were the eyes of her conscience asking her what the hell she was doing. "What?"
"What's in there? Drugs?" the kid asked curious to know what she was after. Alaina shook her head.
"I hope not. You can get nasty diseases from those needles and the hard shit. You know, crack and stuff. It makes you nuts. I seen kids turn into crazy grown ups cause of that stuff," Alaina said. "That ain't what I'm after. You can have that nasty stuff if you want if there is any in there." The kid shook his head.
"I'm not into that stuff," he said. Alaina nodded her approval.
"Good. I'm just looking for a warm place to sleep tonight. Do ya mind?" Alaina asked. The boy opened his mouth to say something, but Alaina crawled into the van and shut the door behind her before he could get a word in. Alaina had some scavenging to do for whatever useful things might be inside the vehicle.
_________________________________________________
Stephan saw two people, a boy and girl, outside some van. He was going to sleep somewhere else tonight, but changed his mind and went up to the van. He was behind the boy and then said loudly, "What are you doing in my van!"
As Kira was just about to say something to the girl, a boy came up behind him and yelled, "What are you doing in my van?"
Kira turned around and stared the kid down. He was slightly shorter them himself, and had the same hair colour and the same eye colour as well. He wore a brown shirt and jeans that were similiar to his own. "Another one," Kira thought to himself. He knew by the way the kid was looking at him that there was no way he owned that car. This wasn't the first time something like this happened. Some kid trying to act tough and instead gets killed for being a jackass with lots of balls. Lucky enough, he wasn't a killer.
"Becareful what you do, because you could've just gotton yourself killed."
The boy blinked once and said, "What do you mean man?"
Kira frowned at him, "If that was honestly your car, why would you leave it in the first place? And even if you had to leave it, why wouldn't you move it to some other location where it couldn't be broken into like what happened right now?"
As Kira said this, he stared at the spanish girl who just hit his nose. Touching his nose, Kira felt the blood freezing up instantly.
"What happened, girl kicked your ass?" said the kid laughing.
Kira glanced back at the kid. "If you don't shut up my foot will be up your ass very soon."
He then looked back at the girl inside the car and slowly walked up to the van. "Doing this to survive," Kira continued thinking to himself. He couldn't blame her though. He did after all scare the living hell out of her, and she is trying to survive on the streets just like that other kid, and also just like himself. Going to the closest window, Kira knocked on the window saying out loud, "You still have my hat. And I want it back."
Kira then closed his eyes and sighed. Damn his conscience, he thought as he looked back at her. "I'm sorry ok, I didn't mean to scare you."
The girl in the van stopped moving and looked back at him, her face unreadable. Then slowly picked up Kira's hat and instead of giving it to him, placed it on her head. Kira couldn't help but smile a bit. Now that he got a real good look of her, he realized that she was very easy on the eyes. Something moved inside him making Kira shiver a bit as he continued looking at her inside the van. Getting an idea all of a sudden, Kira yelled at the girl saying, "Look, how about you let me sleep in there as well, and I'll even pay you for it. There's plenty of room."
As Kira took out his change and showed the girl the money in his hand, the other kid said, "What about me man?"
Kira turned and smirked at him. "Talk to the girl then, but becareful, she has a mean right hook."
Alaina watched the two boys talk outside the window. She smirked. If they thought she was letting them in they were crazy. They both looked at her expectingly. She grinned.
"Excuse me? Is there a vacancy sign on my van?" she laughed. "I broke in here. I worked for this van. It's mine."
"Come on," said the boy whose hat she wore on her head. It was comfy hat. She had no intention on giving it back. And one look in the mirror showed her that she looked good in it too.
"We could turn you in, you know," the other guy threatened. She laughed.
"My guess is you're on the run too. You really want to walk into the police station and make a report?" Alaina asked. The two gave one another a look.
"You really want to take that chance?" said the new guy. Alaina frowned. They were bluffing, she told herself. He smiled and crossed his arms across his chest.
"What are your names?" Alaina asked sweetly through the window.
"Kira," said one in black.
"Stephen."
"Well Stephen. Kira," she said. The two of them seemed to grin as she reached for the handle. "You're wasting your time. Go find a free bench at the bus station before they're all taken." Kira frowned.
"Bitch," he growled. Alaina felt a surge of guilt, but none the boys could see.
"Nyah, nyah," she taunted and stuck out her tongue.
Ethan moved down the alleyway quietly, as if he was a predator stalking prey. The young man's long black hair was loose and wet, and fell down his shoulders, plastered with the fat crystals of rain that exploded from the sky and tingled across his handsome face. His eyes were grim dark slits straining to see against the acidic wetness as he shivered under his leather jacket.
He clutched a switchblade in his right hand very tightly. Like Alaina's it had the logo of a golden cobra emblazed across the grip. It was the symbol of his gang, Poison.
Fear gripped his heart like a vice, coming out in the smoking crystals of his hot breath. He moved across dark streets, his probing eyes wary and alert. Night had fallen thickly, dropping with the New York smog. Cars roared by, and Ethan watched them with jealousy, imagining how smug and dry the people inside were feeling right now. They were going home, while he, was staying out in this dump.
Ethan kicked a nearby dustbin angrily. It rolled over and spilled junk from its open mouth.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" A voice yelled through the rain. A cop.
"Mind your own business, fucker." Ethan swore darkly.
"Sonny," the cop started, walking towards him with his hand on his gun. Hoodlums these days, the policeman thought.
"Don't you 'sonny' me!" Ethan yelled, releasing his anger. He flicked his switch blade open with a snap, the silver of the stark blade shining into the policeman's eyes.
"Shit!" The cop said, whipping out his gun. He trained the automatic pistol on Ethan, but the teen only smiled and moved closer.
The rookie policeman was trembling.
"Don't come any closer!" He warned, trembling. Ethan laughed cruelly and ignored the order.
"I...I'll shoot!" He warned again. Suddenly Ethan faked to the right. The policeman's itchy trigger finger pulled back with a snap and fired the gun.
Bang! The bullet slammed into a brick wall with a shower of cement chips. Ethan moved like an elastic band, and with a lightning snap, threw his cobra switchblade. There was a sickening thud as the knife hit the policeman in the stomach and stuck itself there. The cop gasped, blood staining his uniform, and dropped his pistol.
Fear pounded in Ethan's ears with his blood, but he ignored it and ran forward, picking up the officer's fallen gun. he tucked it into the pocket and ran again, feeling adrenaline and heat pulsing inside his leather jacket.
There was no where to go, but Ethan simply kept on running. he turned corners blindly, without knowing where he was going.
I've injured a policeman! He thought. Maybe I even killed one! How could I have been such an idiot?
Suddenly he stopped, remembering that his friend Carlos had always owed him a favor. And Carlos had a van.
Ethan grinned and took off in the opposite direction, spinning through the grey concrete streets with hope shining ahead like lamps in the night.
He turned two more corners and there it was, a white van with green and white stripes parked just ahead.
It was still, but it sure wasn't alone. Two boys stood outside it, apparently arguing with someone inside the van. But Ethan couldn't see inside it. He hissed angrily. No one was going to steal Carlos's van.
"What do you think you are doing to my van?" He growled, drawing his newly acquired gun and aiming it at the two boys.
Kira turned around to the source of the rough voice. His blood felt frozen with fear.
Kira was staring at the girl with daggers in his eyes as she took off his hat and looked at it again. He had a pet peeve with his hat. No one messed with it since it was the only thing that kept him sane. The only possession he had. The only thing that told him who he really is. Kira began wondering how he was going to break into the van and take back his hat where he noticed someone was behind him. Glancing back, he heard a voice say, "What do you think you are doing in my van?" A boy was standing there with a gun aimed right at him.
Kira felt his blood turned cold at the sight of him. "Fuck," he said to himself in his head. Thanks to that damn girl, Kira was distracted and didn't hear this tall brown guy come in. And by the way Stephan looked right now as he was staring at this guy, he was also surprised.
Glancing to his left, Kira saw an alleyway that continued on for about a couple of meters, then pitching off to the left and right. Kira was pretty sure that he could escape. This happened before and he can sprint very fast due to all the running he use to do a couple of years ago before he was homeless. However by escaping, it was most likely that both Stephan and the girl would die. Kira looked at the girl and looked at the boy that was near him and felt something. They were innocents just like him, trying to survive. Kira realized that even though he was alone on the streets, his heart would never die.
Kira stared back at the guy, and noticed there was blood on his hand. "Shit," Kira thought, "So this guy isn't bluffing."
Kira glanced at Stephan. Stephan gave him a small nod and moved slightly away from Kira and more closer to the other boy.
"Brilliant, now we need a distraction," Kira thought as he looked back at the other boy.
"Yea right, like this is your van," Kira said to the boy.
"Quiet," the boy said darkly. "Now all of you get the hell out of here."
Kira then looked away from him and suddenly behind him. "Cops!"
The boy whipped around apparently frightened already and let off a shot. As he saw no one, he looked back and suddenly dropped the gun as Kira speared him to the ground. Falling to the ground with him, Kira went over to the gun and picked it up. As he picked it up, he felt someone putting him in a sleeper hold. Struggling, Kira looked back and saw the guy with a look of rage as he tried to choke the life out of him. Kira began feeling dizzy and couldn't fight back. Just as he was going to faint, the pressure suddenly dropped.
Slowly getting up, Kira saw Stephan cracking his fists as he was staring at the boy that was on the ground. Nodding to Stephan in thanks, Kira placed his knee cap on the boys throat and stared at him cold as he pointed the gun to his temple.
"Give me a reason, and I'll do it," Kira said in a voice of dead calm.
Suddenly a girl's voice erupted, "Leave him alone!"
Kira glanced back and jumped backwards as the girl with black hair jumped on the boy and covered him with herself. Shaking his head in disbelief, Kira looked at the gun he was holding and placed it in his jeans pocket.
I'm assuming you know this guy?" Kira said to the girl.
"Yes I do, he's a dear friend of mine," said the girl staring up at Kira.
Kira sighed and walked over to the van. Stephen looked back from the girl on the ground to Kira and said, "Where you going?"
Kira glanced backward, "I'm going to get my hat."
Kina sighed in releif as she walked towards the park. She knew that many homeless people slept here so maybe she would be safe here for the night. Then she would look for the homeless shelter later.
She looked at the man sleeping on the bench. He was covered in newspaper and shivering.
Kina looked at her bag and at the three blankets she had made sure to steal from her father. She choose one of the three fleece blankets and walked over to the man.
She tapped him on the shoulder waking him up.
"Here" She said as she held out the blanket. The man look perplexed but took the blanket. Kina smiled and walked over to a tree and leaning aginast it took out her other two blankets and fell asleep with her bag clentched to her chest.
Alaina crawled back into the van and tried to slam the door behind, but Kira put his foot in the doorway. It slammed painfully on his foot, but he'd stopped it successfully. Alaina held on trying to shut the door as Kira pulled on the handle to open it.
"Give me back my hat!" he grumbled through clenched teeth. Alaina realized that he only wanted that stupid hat. Not the van necessarily. She could just give it to him and he would walk away happy, but instead she found herself saying...
"I stole it fair and square! It's mine!" she cried. Ethan and Stephen stood beside one another watching the situation.
"Dude, its just a hat," Stephen laughed. "Let it go. It didn't look that good on you anyway." Kira shot Stephen a glance.
"It's mine!" he said.
"Not anymore!" Alaina said. Ethan sighed. Alaina was still as stubborn as always.
"Alaina, give it back. He'll go away," Ethan said.
"No!" she said. Ethan rolled his eyes. He knew better than to order Alaina around, but it was worth a try. Alaina was losing the battle. Kira was stronger than her. She resorted to lower body strength and pressed her leg in the inside of the van. She grunted as she tried to pull it shut. He grunted as he tried to open the door at the same time. Her other leg lost grip, slipped, and kicked the emergency brake. The van jolted slightly.
"Let go!" Alaina cried.
"Make me!" Kira retorted. Then the wheels started to roll. Ethan suddenly realized the van was moving down the slope.
"Alaina! Get out of the van NOW!" Ethan shouted.
"I found it way before these guys did!" Alaina argued. Kira finally managed to pull himself inside. Alaina stumbled backward and held onto the hat with a death grip. Kira pounced as she lifted her leg in the air, his abdomen hit her foot painfully. He coughed falling to the side of the driver's seat. Suddenly he felt a hand on his collar. Ethan grabbed and pulled him onto the street. Next he grabbed Alaina's ankle and jerked her the same way.
The next thing they knew they both were sitting on the asphalt watching the puke green van roll down the hill, running a stop sign. The van took a sudden turn to the right, jumping the curb, and smashing through a store front window. The van jerked in a abrupt stop after demolishing three or four racks of hand-made ball gowns. Shards of glass rained down and the frightened store owner let out a scream that sounded like it came from a monster movie supporting actress.
"Alaina, why is it that I am always saving your ass?" Ethan said after a moment of stunned silence. She looked over her shoulder to glare at Ethan who had a brotherly-smug smirk on his face. Suddenly Stephen snorted and then as if he couldn't contain it anymore, he burst out laughing.
Alaina picked herself up and brushed off her jeans as Stephen continued to giggle uncontrollably. He took his hand off his mouth to reveal his huge smile.
"That was awesome," he commented. Alaina glared at him.
"Not it wasn't. I was gonna crash in that van," Alaina said.
"It looks pretty crashed to me," Stephen snorted. Alaina huffed. Suddenly she felt the black hat being pulled off her head. Kira smiled victoriously.
"Hey! That's mine," Alaina said. She jumped at Kira in which Ethan caught her in mid-air. She flailed her legs and fought him.
"Alaina, we got bigger problems," Ethan said finally putting her down. Alaina settled down. "That was Carlos's van, Psycho." Alaina stared at Ethan.
"Carlos?" she said suddenly forgetting Kira and Stephen's existence. She was suddenly very attentive. "Carlos as in...?"
"Yes, that Carlos. The Carlos that damn near killed you when you first mentioned leaving the gang. That Carlos," Ethan said. "The one that still wants to kill you." Alaina swallowed hard. Her face softened.
"Ethan, you wouldn't turn me in. Would you?" she asked. Ethan gave her a look.
"You know better than that. I would never do that to you. Besides, I'm on the run from the cops too." Ethan put his hands on Alaina's shoulder and steered her away from the situation as a crowd was beginning to gather around the storefront.
"What the hell happened?" said a voice. There was a shorter, younger kid looking at the group.
"Just what we need. More witnesses," Kira mumbled.
"We gotta go," Ethan said to Alaina. "We can't stay here." Alaina nodded. She held up a finger.
"Just one more thing," Alaina said. Ethan's brow furrowed in confusion. Then Alaina pounced on top of Kira and got the prize black hat she had fought so hard for.
"Hey!" Kira shouted as he was ambushed by the short little hispanic girl. Alaina giggled. Ethan stared at her astonished.
"Go! Go! Go!" Alaina said grinning. Ethan groaned and ran beside her.
"Can't you take anything seriously?" he said running alongside her and pumping his arms hard.
"Yes, I take winning back what I rightfully stole very seriously," Alaina said sincerely. Ethan rolled his eyes. The two of them rounded the corner to search for cover and then their new home.
Angered, Kira ran behind them, bursting across the sidewalk. Suddenly, Ethan faked right and twisted left hard, grabbing Alaina's wrist as he spun off his heel and sprinted across the middle of the road. A Land Rover roared past, almost clipping him in the leg, and Ethan sighed with relief just as a dull impact rang out from behind them.
"Shit!" Alaina swore. Ethan whipped round. Alaina and Ethan had escaped the incoming van, but Kira, who was just a few feet behind them, did not have such luck.
Ethan watched in wide eyed horror as blood spilled out across the tarmac from under Kira's still body. Coughs and spasms shook his chest as he jerked in pain.
His face in his hands, Ethan groaned. He was in such bad luck. But there was much worse to come, as he would know very soon.
The door of the van cracked open angrily, and out came a long haired hispanic man in his early thirties, very angry and very red in the face. This powerful emotion was further enhanced by the four baseball bat and knife wielding thugs that accompanied him. The leader of the five was unmistakably Carlos. Yes, Carlos, the one and only.
"What the fuck is going on here!?" Carlos asked.
"Ethan, you piece of shit, what the hell do you think you were doing playing a game of 'tag' in the streets. Don't fucking act like a three year old! Goddamnit, can't you be still for five minutes?"
His angry words hung in the air like frost. Good thing he was angry, too. Ethan's large form had blocked Alaina from sight, giving her time to disappear into the shadows while the gang leader was ranting and swearing.
"Who the hell is this guy anyway? You steal something from him? Give me your knife. I'll finish him off quick and we can toss him in the dumpster."
"Sorry boss. I ain't got my blade with me today." Ethan hung his head. He was still scared of Carlos, despite everything they had gone through together.
"Whadaya mean you ain't got your blade? You got any idea how dangerous it is out in the streets? You wanna be ambushed by the Tigers, defenceless an' all? Where's your blade anyway?"
"In the gut of a cop," Ethan answered honestly.
"What!? You killed a cop! God, Ethan, you're an idiot. You know that? You're a fucking failure! I don't know why I even-"
Carlos's angry yelling was cut off by the shrill scream of sirens. The police had arrived.
Goddamnit! Ethan thought. At least Alaina had escaped.
Name: Willow 'Will' Drefen
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Appearance: Medium height, skinny from lack of food but still muscular. Will has short black hair streaked with red, cold grey eyes and a scar that runs down the right side of her face,
narrowly missing her eye.
Personality: Cocky and confident, she's incredibly friendly, expect when people are asking her personal questions - then she's as cold as ice. Labelled a trouble maker for a very good reason, she loves a fight and will often start one, especially if she dosen't like you. Although she dosen't get angry very often, theres something in her manner and speech that
warns people not to mess with her.
Why she's on the streets: Her mother was a hippie (hence the name) who died shortly after Will was born, and her dad recently went to jail on a life senetence. She had trouble getting into a foster home, because she's been to jail more quite a few times herself, so she ran away. Leader of the Hawk Eye gang, she has abosouletly no trouble living on the streets, especially seeing as most people who've been around a long time know who she is and stays away.
"Aw, come on, you know I didn't mean it!" Will sighed, then blinked innocently at the police officer sitting on a desk in front of her jail cell. "It was just one little fight, I swear. And I'm just an innocent bystander, anyway!"
"Save it." The police officer said with a grin.
She sighed again. "Look, you owe me-"
She was interupted by a loud noise outside. A few minutes later, the officers came inside, a bunch of teenagers being pushed in front of them.
"I don't even know them! I'm just an innocent bystander!" A teenage boy was yelling as the police officer dumped them all into the cell next to Will.
"Crap." She muttered under her breath. Being stuck here was bearable - after all, she was used to it - but being stuck next to a bunch of winy idiots was not.
"Will?"
Her gaze slid to a guy standing at the back of his group, an angry scowl on his face.
"Carlos." She scowled back, stiffening visably. It was no secret that the two rivals hated each other, and Will had long suspected that Carlos was the one who had informed the police about her 'borrowing' a very expensive car from the police chief.
Now, as she looked at his ugly mug, she would have been kicking his ass if it wasn't for the steel bars that seperated them.
"I though you where on probation, Will. Guess this kind of stuffs it, huh?"
"Yeah, well, I'll be out tommorow." She replied confidently.
There had been a couple of witnesses who had testified that Will was only acting in self defence. Which had, in a way been true - after all, the girl had attacked Will first, after Will had said some extremly rude things a bit too loud.
Carlos just grunted in reply. "By the way, you know Alaina?"
The fact that almost everyone in the group looked at Carlos sharply caugth Will's attention. Eyeing them suspiciously, she shrugged.
"Might have. What's it to you?"
"She left the gang. You know how I feel about that."
"And what, you actually think I might help you? I don't like you, you don't like me. Why would I bother?"
"I can make it worth your while."
She pretended to think about it while studying the rest of the group. They where all male, around the same age as her - and they all seemed to know exactly where Alaina was from the worried looks they where exchanging.
"How about we talk later? I don't discuss business in front of strangers." She replied easily. She had no intention of helping Carlos, no matter what about or what for, but it would be fun to mess around with them for a while.
Settling down on the floor, she leant her head against the wall and waited.
Name: Anastasia Briezl
Age: 15
Appearance: 4'8", Slim build, white blonde curls that fall right below her chin, green eyes, a diamond shaped birthmark on the inside of her right wrist.
Personality: When it comes to older men she is flirty, coy, and knows what to do. When it comes to other people she is quiet, calm, and appears to be shy.
Why on the streets: to be revealed in story.
Anastasia ran her fingers through his hair and kissed him harder. She was reaching her peak, almost there when an angry voice broke through the bliss. "What the hell?...FRANK!...You!...Why you little whore!"
Anastasia gasped as Frank Jones jumped up and off her, standing on the other side of the bed, butt naked, from his wife, Aretha Jones. Uh oh, time to go. Anastasia made a dive off the bed and through the door before Aretha could come from her shock. Slamming into her bedroom, she grabbed clothes and threw them on while throwing the rest of her belongings in a duffel bag. She cringed as she heard something glass shatter against the wall in the other bedroom.
Frank and Aretha were the fifth foster family in the last year that Anastasia had been sent to live with. She had told herself this one would be different, but it had not. She couldn't help herself and neither could Frank. Her foster fathers never could restrain themselves and so once again the wife had caught her in bed with the husband.
Gathering the few things in the world she owned, and what little money of her allowance had been saved she climbed from the window and headed towards town. She would not go to another foster family this time, her counselor had warned her about such activities and the consequences. Anastasia knew that she would have to be on her own now.
The blood was already dry as Kira began to wake up. The first thing he felt when he woke up was unusual pain. As he opened his eyes, he found himself lying down on the pavement, all covered in dried blood. Rolling over, Kira reached over in his jean pocket, and pulled out a liquid military ration. Knowing how rare it was to get one of those, Kira promised himself to only use it when it was his last resort. Ripping the package, he began sucking in the contents, feeling the liquid refreshing him as it entered his stomach. Closing his eyes and breathing heavily, Kira wiped all of the dry blood from his mouth. Feeling the pain lessen, Kira sat himself up and crawled to the nearest wall. Reaching it, Kira laid his back down on it, and continued sucking the ration, letting himself regain his strength.
Thirty minutes later, Kira stood up, throwing away the military ration. His mind clear, Kira frowned trying to remember what happened before he got knocked unconscious. Closing his eyes, Kira began remembering two voices. One was that kid named Ethan that gave him a bit of trouble, along with helping him out. And the other kid was Carlos, leader of a gang that was known in the area.
Kira continued to frown as he was looking around the area. He didn't know where that girl named Alaina was - at least that's what Ethan called her. Kira touched his head, also realizing that his hat was still missing. Cursing softly, Kira began checking his pockets in case he was mugged while he was unconscious.
"I better stay away from her," he thought. Now that she being hunted by Carlos and his gang, he had no intention of looking for her. Then again, there was this feeling...
Kira stopped, as he felt something his pants. Taking it out, Kira realized he still had the police gun he took from Ethan earlier back. Kira's eyes widen as he stared at the instrument of death. He held a gun before, but he never had to use it. But now, with gang activity growing recently, will it be used in the end?
Kira placed the gun back and began walking back towards the main street. As he was walking, two thoughts were running through his mind. The first is where was Alaina? And the second is why did he keep thinking of her.
Alaina watched the jail from a fire escape across the street. Carlos was put away where he belonged, that bastard. But he was also locked up with Ethan and that other guy. She had to get Ethan out of there. He'd saved her life more than once. He didn't deserve to be locked away. He was a good kid. Well, not a good kid necessarily. But he was a good friend.
Alaina gave a deep sigh. She placed her hat on sideways before she really paid attention to it. Then she took it off and observed it. Then out of pure curiosity she looked both ways to make sure no one was watching and sniffed.
"Holy-!" Alaina turned her head and coughed. Kira must have been on the streets for a while. Or maybe it was her had been on the streets for a while. Alaina grabbed a lock of hair and sniffed. "Nope. It's definitely him."
She started to make her way down the fire escape.
"You," said a voice. Alaina yelped and steadied herself on the handrails. It was Kira. Eyeing her suspiciously and covered in blood. She sighed and began to make her way down.
"Shit. What happened to you?" Alaina asked landing on the pavement.
"You happened to me. I got hit by a car chasing after you," Kira answered walking toward her. Kira opened his palm. "The hat. Please." Alaina took off the baseball hat and looked it over. Finally she was ready to give in.
Alaina tossed it to him. Kira was surprised she hadn't been as reluctant as before.
"There you go. It needs a wash, Stinky. I got more important things to do than play your games anymore," Alaina said. Kira placed the hat back on with care.
"Yeah, like what?" Kira asked.
"Like helpin' out the guy that saved both our asses back at the van," Alaina said nodding over to the jail.
"Right. Your boyfriend," Kira said as if to test her. Alaina shot him a look.
"He ain't my boyfriend. He's the guy that saves my ass when I'm in trouble. It's only fair I do the same," Alaina said crossing her arms over her chest. She snuck a peak at Kira's eyes again. The ones that accused her of every bad thing she'd every done in her life.
"I'm guessing you expect me to feel the same way about that guy? Like I owe him something?" Kira said. Alaina pointed him in the chest.
"We were both in that van when it started rolling down the hill. He dragged both of us out," she pointed out.
"Alright," Kira said. Alaina blinked in surprise.
"Alright?"
"How do you want to get them out, Shorty?" Kira said with a hint of playfulness in his tone.
"I'm not short," she argued. Kira nearly burst out laughing. "Okay. Don't CALL me short," she rephrased. "And I have no idea how to get Ethan outta there. I just know we gotta." Alaina smirked a little looking admiringly at this new kid. He had spunk. He had enough rebellion to go around. He would make an admirable companion.
'If only he would stop looking at me with those eyes,' she thought.
The four stupid looking hoodlums left, but there was one guy who still stayed. Will shot him a sharp look and he returned an even more murderous one with his sea green eyes. Will cocked an eyebrow, then glanced at Carlos.
"Well, what're you waiting for? Scram! Fuck off!" Carlos growled at Ethan.
But the boy merely stared at his gang leader with cold eyes.
"Might I remind you," he said coldly, "that we're in prison, and all rank between gangmembers is forgotten in this stinking pigsty!"
Carlos stood, looming up above Ethan with blazing black eyes full of anger. "I'm warning you, Ethan Weaving..."
Will felt a strange compassion for Ethan all of a sudden, and decided to do something instead of watching the two slug each others's brains out.
"You idiots are helpless!! I don't even know why I try to help you if you're not even going to cooperate!" She exclaimed angrily. Getting up to her feet, she stomped off angrily.
"Wait! Will, get back here!" Carlos shouted despeately. "Ethan, why hell do you have to get in the way?"
Something broke inside the boy. He stood as well, so that his height was the same as Carlos's. We're in prison here, he thought to himself. WE've got the same rank. You can do this.
And then hate fumed inside him like lava in a volcanoe, and he spoke with clenched teeth.
"Don't talk to me like that, Carlos. I've had enough of your crap, and I ain't your fucking guard dog no more. So if you don't watch your mouth, I sure as hell might just beat the crap outa you with my bare fists."
Carlos was a man who worshipped respect and discipline. And this behavior from one of his homeboys was something he could not bare.
Growling in his wrath, Carlos charged at Ethan with a hard right hook aimed for the jaw.
Unfortunately, the timing was bad. Ethan dodged the punch, letting Carlos's fist bang loudly against the steel bars.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" One of the cops came running over with a gun. Carlos held the wrist of his injured hand. Will found herself a chance for revenge.
"Officer, that bastard with long hair over there was started to beat up Ethan all of a sudden! We didn't even know what happened, and then suddenly, wham! he just punched Ethan in the gut!"
Ethan covered a grin with his palm and bent over, breathing loudly and pretending to be hurt.
"I think something's wrong with me," He said, faking a rasping breath.
"Bastard!" Carlos yelled, charging at Ethan and Will like a speeding rhino.
"Boss! No!" One of Carlos's cronies was already yelling, but it was too late. There was a bang and the stench of gunpowder hung in the air as Carlos fell to the ground, a bullet buried in his right leg. There was a clank of keys as the cell door was opened. Two muscular, gorilla like policemen dragged Carlos out.
"That's it, idiot. Solitary confinement for three months. You go on trial in five days."
The cell door shut again, and Carlos's angry ranting evanesced as he was dragged further away. Ethan grinned at Will and slapped her a high five.
"Thanks girl, you saved my ass." And Will merely winked. "The bastard deserved it!"
"Hey, officer! I think this young man needs to go to the hospital. You know, seeing as he's badly hurt and everything." Will smiled polietly at the police officer. Watching Carlos getting his ass fried was enough to put her in a good mood for life.
"Yeah, yeah." The officer's unlocked the cell, then took Ethan out, who was still in very real-looking fake pain.
Will watched the police car head to the hospital, then turned to the nearest officer. "Hey, am I getting out or what?"
Four hours and dozens of documents later, and she was standing out the front of the hospital.
Walking inside, she headed towards the visting station. "Hi, yes, I'm looking for my boyfriend, Ethan..." Oh crap, she didn't know his last name! "...Carethilia." She finished lamely.
The nurse frowned slightly, eyeing her ripped up jeans with distate, then quickly typed a command into the computer. "There is no Ethan Carethilia on the database."
"Oh, really? Man, that's annoying. Well, thanks anyway!" Will turned around and made as if she was heading towards the bathroom, then ducked around a corner.
Pulling out her mobile phone, Will quickly punched in a number. "Hey, Jess, I need you to do me a huge favour..."
A few minutes later, a teenaged girl walked in, only to 'pass out' directly in front of nurse, who quickly left her desk to help.
While she was occupied, Will quickly helped herself to the computer, searching all of the recent arrivals before finding one Ethan Weaving, who was under police custody.
"Room 231..." Spotting the room with two police officers standing outside, Will paused for a second, then came running around the corner.
"Help, please!" The police officers came over straight away. "This man, he's trying to kill my cousin!" Will wailed, pointing down the hall.
"Room 211!" She yelled after them as they ran off. Glancing around, she quickly entered room 231.
"Miss me?" She asked, shutting the door behind her before striding over to the window. Ethan's mouth dropped. "What are you doing here?"
"What, you honestly think I haven't broken someone out before? Hospital, detention, jail... I do 'em all." Will grinned, throwing up the window sill.
"Uh, we're kind of on the second floor."
"And theres an amublance directly below us." Will replied, climbing up onto the window sill.
Jumping, she landed with a thud on top of the said amulance, then leapt lightly onto the ground, Ethan following a few seconds later.
Almost straight away, two very angry police officers poked their heads out the window and began to yell.
"Run!" Ethan yelled, setting off at a very fast pace for someone who was supposedly hurt. Will followed, bursting into laughter the moment they where safe. "Man, that was awesome!"
"Your crazy, you know? Thanks, by the way. You didn't need to get me out."
Suddenly uncomfortable, Will shrugged, trying to be casual. "I, uh, only did it to piss Carlos off. Anyway, so what now?"
"I need to find Alaina. Make sure she's okay and all." Ethan replied, looking worried.
"Any ideas where she'll be?"
"Not really. She kind of ran off when Carlos arrived at the scene."
Will shrugged, grinning again. "Then we'd better start looking." Turning, she eyed a car sitting in the driveway nearby. "Hey, I'll be back in a second."
Ethan shook his head as he watched her run off to the car, his eyebrows shooting up as she quickly smashed the window before climbing in.
He quickly ran over and joined her as she quickly and effortlessly started up the engine.
"We gonna find her or not?"
Shrugging, he climbed into the car. "You know, the police are going to be after us both, now. Me with the knife thing, you with the car thing..."
She just grinned. "When are the police not after me?!"
Pulling out of the driveway, they headed towards where Ethan had last spotted Alaina.
