I'd been scrolling through blogs, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this entry!
I do LOVE 1408 - it might not be as scary to a "normal" person, but being a Founder and Lead Investigator of a Paranormal Research team, it is like the scariest! Talk about mindfuck, the very thought of going into an investigation and not being able to leave is true terror, trust me. There is a similar movie called Grave Encounters. Not as scary, though.
I have a short list as well, and would like to share them:
1. Rec (short for record) - its the original, Spanish version of Quarantine. Lets just say the final scene is probably the scariest I've ever seen - and I've seen tons.
2. The Eye & The Eye 2 (Cantonese version) - They are super- creepy, cringing in your seat, covering your eyes kinda movies. Don't watch them alone - DO watch them back to back.
3. Unborn Child (Thai version) - English subtitles for this and previous 2 movies, but oh SO worth it!
4. Penny Dreadful (the film, not the series) - this movie always freaks me out. Not to give anything away, but theres nighttime, and woods...bad combination!
You know, in all honesty - I agree with you. Why should you have to put on a happy face and act like it's so nice to see them and how much you appreciate them making an appearance when in reality all you want to say is WTH asshole? I didn't speak to hardly anyone at my grandmother's funeral. It always seems to bring out the assholes anyway. I remember my brother's first wife asking if she could have the dress that my grandmother was laid out in IN THE CASKET. Seriously, she did that.
*sigh* They're divorced thankfully. That woman was a piece of work.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Okay, so I started looking through your port last night and saw the blog - great way to get to know someone blah blah blah ... next thing I know I'm on Hulu watching The Booth At The End and I look up and it's 5am. Oops. That wasn't on the TO DO list. Now I guess I need to look at how much Hulu Plus is because I see the second season is on there. This show reminds me of a book I read recently. Well, last year anyway.
I didn't particularly like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo book, probably because of the wooden translation, but I should probably give the movie a try. I think I'll take a look at both the Swedish and American versions and see which I like best.
Thanks for the nice review. I was not sure whether I wanted to see the movie or read the book, and you have made up my mind. I'm getting on the "hold" waiting list at my library. The other night I watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo via Netflix (the Swedish version), and it stayed very true to the book. I read the book in the Rising Stars book club when it was active. I thought both were well worth the time. There has been a lot of hype about the new version (just as there was on The Help). Wonder if it will be worthwhile?
I haven't gotten around to seeing "The Help" yet. Thank you for this reminder. I make a mental list of movies I want to see, but some of them slip out of focus before I get there.
