Food for Thought If a poem has to rhyme then everything is mime and words are meaningless just nonsense we address never minding that they chime they’re still not worth a dime and cannot be so pretty as a little rhyming ditty. LIfe Lessons Life lessons in the classroom of experience that rigid master of the developing soul scratching the squeaking words on the dusty chalkboard and our suffering in rapt silence at learning’s knee. This was the teacher of old school unbroken no empty vessel of propaganda barely from her teens this was the strict icon of discipline and power to inflict pain and reason on inattentive minds. Mossman Mossman creeping across the bark down low amongst the humus soil a creature of the damp and dark in secret growth his soul doth coil But now in species friendship true a gesture brave and quite unique extends he once a tiny hand to you and you into his world do peek. Footprints Footprints in the mind of memory places we once knew signs and rhymes of other times ages we pass through. Gone from daily hue and cry deeds of former days in silent moments now they rise unbidden from the haze. Moonshine Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, here in the darkness forever I ride, while there in the black skies she revels in blue, my face turned to hers to honour her due. So rarely my chance for sweet recompense, I’ll not say revenge, but it’s pleasure intense to swing through her sky and stand in the way, now shadowed her light and darkened her day.
