Wonderful poem that links footprints to bits and pieces of our memories over the years.
As we get older, we do leave a mark behind - footprints if you will - and even as they fade away, they'll always linger and be a reminder of what we once were.

Dark, winter’s morning,
and I am snuggled in the sheets
with just an errant fingertip
released and to explore;
but even that betrays defence,
determined draught invading
and scratching at my side.
