Wonderful poem that links footprints to bits and pieces of our memories over the years.
As we get older, we do leave a mark behind - footprints if you will - and even as they fade away, they'll always linger and be a reminder of what we once were.

the 21st Century would be an odd time
to rediscover the beat poets and beatniks,
and maybe I owe them more than I know,
they make me smile and I know them better,
now more than ever before, a land unknown
to return to and mumble something about roots.
