Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: WRITE A GRAY POEM.

Today when I opened the door
The green grass I saw no more
Buried beneath the snowy white
Winter arrived during the night

The air is cold, the wind is chill
I hear it through my window sill
Low clouds turn the sky dark gray
Another cold, wet, dreary day!

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: WRITE A WRAPPED-UP POEM.

A bitter cold at the end of the day
Brisk north winds make pine trees sway
The blowing snow forms drifts and dunes
Transforming landscapes into barren ruins

The fireplace flames flicker and dance
Soothing me with their hypnotic trance
Wrapped in blankets by the warm firelight
Writing verse or prose deep into the night

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: The Longest Day

Worry and anxiety fill my heart
Slowing time, prolonging my day.
Sleepless night, the voices start,
"What will happen, what will they say?"

Morning arrives in fearful dread.
Coffee's upsetting, I cannot eat.
Pacing the floors, throbbing head,
Only to learn it was all just deceit!

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: Duty.

With a sense of duty is the way
To live out your life, every day.
Be it to faith, family, or friends
Live your life by duty until the end.

We all have a duty in this life;
Do good to others, don't do strife.
Forgive and move on. Love don't hate;
Revenge is for God, karma, or fate.

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: CLAMOR.

I had just sat down at my desk to start writing
When all of a sudden the dogs began fighting.

They knocked something over and made such a clamor
I jumped from my desk and yelled out, "Tod Gammer!"

I ran to the kitchen and stepped on a bone
Landed hard on my butt and broke my cell phone!

The dogs came a runnin' as if in a race, and
Before I could get up, were licking my face.

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: Image - In A Forest, Man, Fog, Fish.

Wandering in the forest
On a foggy, chilly day
I found myself bewildered
I had completely lost my way

I had no hope of rescue
Then I heard an eerie swish
And was guided back to safety
By a ghostly floating fish

Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: WRITE A POEM ABOUT ISOLATION.

All alone no one around,
A single tree on the ground.

Standing alone against the storm.
Refusing change, won't conform.

Reaching upward seeking the light.
Standing fast through the darkest night.

That lone ole' tree is a beautiful site.
I admire its beauty and respect its might.
