Point of View

Straight and true, that’s me,
though never a ruler,
and the essence of speed,
all things being measured by me.
So imagine my humiliation
at this bending and refraction,
this capture and mutation,
in the heart of a stone of earth.

A Stroll in the Grounds

“Shall we,” enquired the Duchess,
“take a gentle amble to the gate?
To wander past the rabbit hutches
and see the balloons inflate,
there would be merriment indeed.
‘Tis my dearest wish, my heart.”
I answered with much speed,
“Oh, let it be, forthwith let us depart.”

Prospector’s Ship Comes In

I’ll stake my claim
and so exact the most
from this, my richest find,
the prize of years of toil
at the masthead of my ship
of fate, my endurance
being the stays that
held my course so true.

Abandoned

I’m still waiting here
Where you left me,
faithful to our bond,
I remain steadfast.
Without your presence
hope wears thin
like the sock
you left me for.

Denial’s a River in Africa

Though awful shy,
I cannot deny
today’s prompts have me scratching,
motivation is not matching,
inspiration on vacation,
I must, with trepidation,
throw in the towel
in consonants and vowels.

Spherical Travel

Globe of the earth, multicoloured,
familiar shapes, a world revealed,
feast for the imagination, turns,
spins, revolves to reveal new nations,
lands of wondrous visions,
names exotic, redolent of discovery,
so the finger traces journeys unknown
but as great, perhaps, as the reality.

The Meaning of Castle

Kenilworth Castle, a ruin yet still imposing,
a curtain wall encompassing, still complete,
chapel and residence, lodge and stables.
the lake, now drained but the walls frowning
on its former shores, just fields for grazing cows,
and in the centre, square, immense and dark,
the towering keep, one wall blasted by Cromwell’s
cannons but resolute, strong and lasting.

Conclusion

Oh yes, I’m absolutely sure,
quite definitely that’s how it was,
at least, there was little doubt,
had to be over fifty fifty true,
more than possible, we all agreed,
it looked as though it might be,
we couldn’t rule it out,
uncertain as we were.

Kom der Revolution

Out there behind the shed,
hidden from the ordered garden,
the kingdom of the wild waits,
biding its time, the bramble,
weeds and ivy, daisy, dog rose,
counting the days in patience,
foreshadowing their renaissance,
saplings in search of a forest.

The Glorious Pocket

The pocket is a wondrous thing,
it is my constant friend.
It frees my hands from all that bling,
lets them mend, send, defend.

Two pockets, better far than one,
and many is sheer heaven,
I have a jacket made alone
from pockets numbered eleven.
