News analysis and commentary from a conservative perspective.
” Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution ... for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.”

— Abraham Lincoln

Let us first look at the definition of conservatism:

A political belief that supports emphasis on traditions and relies on the individual to maintain society.

Traditions create continuity - they bind people together.

How have we lost of this?

What is going on in our country today has weakened all of us. At times, I have looked around and could not recognize the country I love. What has happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave? I never dreamed as a child singing "My Country Tis of Thee" in school (yes we used to the song in school), I would one day look around as an adult and wonder if the sweet freedom we were singing about would last for all eternity as the lyrics say.

How strange is it we have federal troops in Washington, D.C. doing nothing while anarchy rules at our borders? When I was 13 years old, I visited Germany. The wall was still up back then but we were able to ride a train to one place and visit. I was told when the German soldiers came onto the train in the middle of the night to check our passports to be serious and not smile. I did what the teacher told me to do. I will never forget the eery feeling in that park. It was not a park you would want to take your kids to play. The military made 15 minute rounds through the park with huge guns strapped across their backs. Today's America is not far from the past of East Berlin. What can we learn from the past? We can learn a great deal.

The Preamble to the United States Constitution for Dummies (like me)

The Preamble to the United States Constitution is stocked with principles. They were placed there for a reason. These principles are meant to guide our nation as a whole through any future issues that had the potential to threaten our common welfare. It is a set of fundamental principles to protect us, guide us, unify us, and so we may continue to experience freedom. The United States Constitution is the most influential document ever written aside from the Holy Bible.

What This Means To Me?

Our founding fathers had enough wisdom from their own experience to forsee that "we the people" have the potential to be devisive, guided by our egos, and/or a need for power. Because of their wisdom and reliance of a power greater than themselves, they created the consitution to guide us during these times.

We need this guidance today just as much as we need God to guide us through what is happening in our world. Allow me to ask you this question: Have you ever been asked to do something you did not really want to do? We all have. Hopefully, we end up making our decisions based on principles and not our own character defects. Those principles are our values. We protect our values by setting boundaries for ourselves. This nations constitution are our boundaries. Boundaries meant to protect us as individuals, to bind us together, establish fairness, to secure peace for our nation, and to speak for our common welfare, to protect each one of us generation after generation and to protect our country so that our freedoms are continued. That is powerful!

Today, America is deeply divided by egos, power hungry, and devisive people who are trying to strip away everything we hold dear. If we do not practice and protect our constitution, America and our freedoms which we hold dear will not stand.

Human Dignity

We were created in the image of God, ALL OF US. You cannot put a price on human life. God loves me just as he loves you. He loves the CEO just as he loves the janitor. A just government protects human life. It honors marriage and family. A just government embraces religion and morality.

Where do we go from here?

Education is key for most everything in life. When things begin to tumble, we go back to the basics. Our foundation is strong. It all starts with each one of us. My children know when they see a man or woman in a military uniform they thank him or her for their service. They stand for the National Anthem. They salute the flag and more importantly they know why they are to do so.

We must preserve these ideals in order to maintain the goodness of our nation. This is our secret to continued greatness.
