Apparently, Dave and Anne wrote this song at a low point in their careers and struggling. Their first album didn't do anything and so they were thinking this is what dreams are made of. But then they go and give the good advice "Hold your head up..." mainly to keep their hopes alive.

And it worked!

You're right. I do love this song. I've never heard this version before, but it definitely made me smile. Incidentally, this is my dog's favourite holiday song. My hubby and I sing to him, "Jingle bells, Alfie smells, we wish he'd run away." There's more to it. We have the whole song tailored just for Alfie

I love this song, Alex Morgan. I haven’t heard it in forever, but I had it on an easy listening CD a while ago. It definitely lifts you up. It makes me think of long, hot summer days, spent with not a care in the world.

Whatever makes you feel comforted cannot be messed up. We all react differently to situations so there is no 'non-messed up' or 'messed up' way. You have to do what helps you feel better. No one can do that for you.

I found it ironic that on the same Alan Parsons Project album Eve, was a song about lifting oneself up and believing in yourself. "Don't be afraid to reach out" is one of the repeated lines in the song. To have this positive song and then such a sad song just two tracks after seems to me like they cancel each other out.

This is a great song. I only just spotted your post, and I wanted to answer your question. Yes. I do listen to sad songs, songs about sucidal feelings, even, when I'm feeling down. I feel comforted by them, knowing other people have felt the same way. However, now I've thought about it, I wouldn't say they make me feel happier. I think I actually listen to them, knowing I will be able to relate to them and wallow in them. I know they will exacerbate my bad feelings, but I think, in a way, that's what I want. Is that messed up? Or is it pretty normal? I'm not sure.
