Toe in the Water

A tentative blog to test the temperature.

Ten years ago I was writing several blogs on various subjects - F1 motor racing, Music, Classic Cars, Great Romances and, most crushingly, a personal journal that included my thoughts on America, memories of England and Africa, opinion, humour, writing and anything else that occurred. It all became too much (I was attempting to update the journal every day) and I collapsed, exhausted and thoroughly disillusioned in the end.

So this blog is indeed a Toe in the Water, a place to document my thoughts in and on WdC but with a determination not to get sucked into the blog whirlpool ever again. Here's hoping.

I was going to just comment that because it's such a common name that I know many people with that surname. But then I realized why it's Anderson and honestly, I think it's because they thought Adamson would be too on the nose, too obvious. Anders is another version of Andrew, which means "manly" . Neo Anderson is supposed to mean "new son of man". I just gave myself a dope slap. It was always obvious that Neo was meant to be a messianic figure, but I never thought about his name at all.

Good point, when I was a freshman in college I had an introductory Algebra course taught by a teacher we called Mr. Anderson. My friend found me in the library and asked me who taught my math class. I told her and she did the Agent Smith thing. I was so confused because I'd not seen the Matrix by that point.

Lockdown

Lockdown

Lately I’ve seen a lot of people reflecting on the changes the covid lockdown made in their lives and how they’re still working through it. That’s understandable but, for some, it’s effect was minimal.

The old, for instance, with many of them being housebound already. For them, little changed apart from longer waits to get an order from dial-up deliveries.

And then there were those few who had changed already and saw it coming.
