I do not generally stick with movies I do not find interesting, but at times I have been trapped in a theater with a friend who really wanted to see a particular film. One of those films was A Knight’s Tale with Heath Ledger. I hated that movie. It drove me nuts the authors appeared to be taking characters from 2001 and setting them in medieval Europe. They should have made it a time travel film instead of historical fiction. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and it absolutely frustrates me when authors do not do their homework about a time period. Ledger’s character seemed to be a poor person in America not medieval Europe. You did not just “work your way up” there. There was no “American Dream.” While there may have been a little bit of movement it still would have been within the confines of that society. Generally, if I start a movie that is set in a certain time period and it does not appear that the authors are attempting to be true to that time, I stop watching pretty quickly.
