Yesterday, I finally understood why India is doomed.

India will always remain a country that will fail to achieve its full potential. This is how Indians are. They will do everything possible to ensure India remains a third-world country.

After work, as I was leaving office, I began turning into a lane, when a car coming from the opposite side swung to the wrong side and blocked me. I indicated to him that he could easily go around me. Instead, he insisted that I get in the wrong lane, so that he could go. I realised that if I did that, I would end up blocking everyone else behind him.

I had two choices. Stand my ground or find an opportunity to get out, without inconveniencing others. I chose the latter. But as I drove off the man's attitude kept me wondering about what India really is.

The news of the arrests of five activists and lawyers had spread through the news wires. But they had been declared an enemy of the state by a Govt that is ready to spend Rs 5000 crore on publicity, but won't spend Rs 600 crores on a state drowning from floods.

In many ways, Govts will continue to promote fat cat crony capitalism, but will go out of its way to deny the weak, the poor and the ordinary their basic rights.

An editor, with houses and farms across India will write how it's important to acquire land from the poor for public causes without stopping to wonder about the irony he perpetrates through his columns.

This is the reality of India. It's an oligarchy of the rich and powerful. It's armies are like these drivers who will drive in the wrong lane and insist everyone else pay the price. He will also vote for a party that has bigotry and cowardice in its DNA.

India is doomed. If you think it isn't, I am happy to share whatever you are smoking, but I am afraid, delusion doesn't come easy to me.
